EXPERT TIP:
PowerPoint 2010 Animation Painter

Expert Word and PowerPoint users know about the Format Painter tool, which you use to copy formatting from one paragraph in Word (or one object in PowerPoint) to another. PowerPoint 2010 adds a time-saving Animation Tool that works in essentially the same way. Click on the object that has an animation you want to use to animate another object; then click on the Animation Painter tool; finally click on the object to which you want to apply the animation.

A Spring in their Step
On the Road Again
By Char LeMaire

Our 2011 Next Generation Learning for Legal Technology Roadshow sponsored by ILTA is packed full of practical tips and suggestions for taking your learning initiatives to the next level. We are using an Office 2010 rollout as our example and will share how firms today are using social tools to connect with learners in new and exciting ways which allow them to carry the learning journey from the very start of project communication all the way through to the wrap up party at the end of the rollout (don’t we all do those?)

“The ILTA User Support Services Peer Group is excited to bring you the latest Traveling Coaches Roadshow. I had the privilege of seeing the first session here in Austin. As always, Char's presentation was entertaining and informative, added Michelle Spencer, ILTA User Support Peer Group Vice President and IT Specialist at Bracewell & Giuliani, LLP. “If you've got that big rollout coming up, this will give you some great food for thought!"

Char LeMaire combines her wisdom, experience, and sense of humor to once again WOW you with great insight and ideas. Sign up for a session near you…and bring a friend.

Core Values at Work
The Legal Blogosphere
by Loretta Wagner, Editor

Thinking about getting started writing and publishing a blog for your next firm-wide project like that Office 2010 upgrade? Blogs offer you the opportunity to provide topic-specific information and resources of interest to your firm’s audience. In general, it’s one of the most popular ways to connect with a niche audience by communicating with them in their own language. And, blogs provide not only ways to reach your audiences, but also establishes you as a thought leader in your firm, highlights your project offerings and builds user adoption in your firm.

Whether you’re looking to start an internal blog for your firm’s users to consume project information, or you’re involved in launching an external blog for personal or professional reasons, there are some things to keep in mind. With over 125 million blogs (BlogPulse) out there, competing for your internal audience’s reading time and today’s audience bombarded with information overload; it is important to know the stats and the goals of your blog short and long-term. Making your blog a success involves some very important key steps to remember - write and write often, publish RSS feeds to create traffic (FeedBurner) (if you have an intranet that allows for that), make sure the design stands out and sets you apart from the many other blog sites, track your blog to see what is creating the most interest (Google Analytics), make your blog interactive and set about promoting it using prevalent internet marketing methods like social bookmarking (Delicious) and other means of social media. Follow these steps and you’ll find your blog flooded with traffic in no time.

Some interesting, general blog statistics:

  • 53.3% of the total blogging population is 21-35 years old. Bloggers aged 20 and under came in second, with 20.2%, followed by 36-50-year-olds (at 19.4%) and 51-year-olds and older (7.1%).
  • 29.2% of bloggers are located in the U.S. - that’s four times as many as the UK, which comes in second with 6.75%.
  • California has the most bloggers at 14.1%, and New York comes in number two with 7.1%.
  • 77% of internet users read blogs.
  • 60% of bloggers have a college degree and 40% have graduate degrees with one in four blogger households earning $100,000+

“There’s another bonus to blogging about a topic you are passionate about,” added Tami Schiller, Learning Specialist/Futurist for Traveling Coaches. “When you share information through a blog post, it provides you with an opportunity to reflect and dissect the topic looking at the content through a different perspective. Your blog becomes your own online journal providing you with a historic knowledge base of experiences and trends in your area of expertise. Your blog can be used as a professional journal and not just a marketing tool.”
