4,000 Users on Three Continents First Unified Global Document Management and Collaboration Solution for Leading Law Firm FOSTER CITY, CALIF. and LAWNET (BOCA RATON, FL.) - August 21, 2002 - iManage, Inc. (Nasdaq: IMAN), a leading provider of collaborative content management software for global enterprises, today announced that Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue, one of the world's largest and most geographically diverse law firms, has completed its implementation of iManage WorkSite™ as the core system for its unified document management, collaboration and knowledge management initiatives. The comprehensive, integrated iManage WorkSite suite delivers document management, collaboration, portal access, workflow, knowledge management and business process automation in a single solution on a highly scalable and secure Internet platform. Jones Day is one of the world's largest international general practice law firms, ranked number three by the AmLaw 100. With more than 1,800 lawyers and over 4,000 employees in locations spanning the U.S., Europe and Asia, the firm's ability to efficiently bring the talent and experience of attorneys throughout its organization to bear on matters originating in any office is a key benefit to the firm's clients. However, the firm's previous document management system proved inadequate, lacking the needed stability and performance, leading Jones Day to halt deployment in many offices. As attorneys and staff members stopped using the system, the firm lost the ability to effectively capture and leverage the knowledge that plays a major role in ongoing client service. "Without a stable foundation of collaborative content management, we were unable to pursue important knowledge management initiatives to help our attorneys and staff leverage our firm's knowledge and expertise more productively," said Jones Day CIO Terry Crum. "By converting to iManage WorkSite, we will now realize our vision of bringing users and resources throughout the firm together through tightly integrated collaboration, knowledge management and document management." The parameters of the deployment included 4,000 users in 11 countries on three continents. Assisting Jones Day were two iManage partners: Smart Solutions, which provided user support during the conversion, and Traveling Coaches, which provided user training. The project included full integration of iManage WorkSite with Jones Day's existing iPlanet Portal Secure Gateway and Web Proxy, as well as integration with Netegrity and RSA SecureID to enable unified log-in. In spite of its extensive requirements, the implementation was completed on schedule in only six months, including developing the project plan, finalizing the logistics of converting Jones Day worldwide offices, implementing pilot programs in London and Hong Kong, performing needed infrastructure upgrades and conducting full deployment in all offices. More than three million documents were transferred from the previous document management solution and from network repositories to the iManage WorkSite repository. Throughout the project, iManage's professional services staff worked closely with the Jones Day team. "We're a highly demanding organization, and iManage's professional services people came through with flying colors," said Brian Gillam, associate director of global information services, Jones Day. Jones Day uses iManage WorkSite to support its knowledge management initiatives such as matter centric collaboration, a new paradigm for legal industry technology whereby firms use the electronic equivalent of a case file to provide an integrated view of documents, events, tasks and contacts for any given matter. Matter centric collaboration has emerged in tandem with such trends as the adoption of a practice centric management model, in which a centralized practice leader or leaders manage a team of lawyers and paralegals dispersed across the organization, with increased emphasis on leveraging the knowledge gained from each matter to benefit the entire practice group. Similarly, as consolidation among firms increases the complexity of managing personnel across multiple offices, matter centric collaboration enables firms to maintain tightly integrated teams of geographically dispersed personnel while reducing the duplication of effort by eliminating the need for each office to maintain its own set of physical files. Attorneys and staff at Jones Day now enjoy a broad range of new tools and functionality, including convenient access to resources located throughout the firm. For example, a team member in Hong Kong can now easily locate documents in the Pittsburgh office that pertain to a given case, industry or practice area, an unprecedented level of information sharing that makes matter centric collaboration simpler and more efficient than ever. This type of cross-border collaboration will become even more common as Jones Day continues the evolution of its practice made possible by iManage WorkSite. "As one of the world's largest law firms, Jones Day understands both the benefits and the challenges presented by having personnel and resources distributed throughout the world," said Chris Junker, iManage vice president of U.S. legal sales. "iManage WorkSite provides a solid foundation for next-generation knowledge management and matter centric collaboration to help the firm's attorneys and staff make the best use of its collective expertise and knowledge in every matter it handles, in any location, to continue and expand Jones Day's leadership position in the field."
